Cinema in the UK
I’ve always been a big movie buff. Cinema in the UK isn’t that different than cinema in the States, but like most things, there are a few differences.
First of all, when you buy your popcorn you need to know they have two types – salty or sweet. You order one or the other. And they don’t have separate salt shakers. Your popcorn is either ‘salted’ or its ‘sweet’ – they have no ‘plain’ or ‘buttered’ popcorn. The salted popcorn tastes pretty much like ours. The sweet popcorn can best be described as ‘kettle corn’ that you can find at many state fares in the US.
The average ticket price in the UK is £9 (about $18!!). No one said it was cheap. Student tickets are around £6.35.
Most of the time, movies in the UK come out weeks, if not months, after their US release. Bigger movies come out relatively closer to the release dates in the US.

Love celebrities? If you are in London, you are in luck. Almost every week there is a huge movie premier in Leicester Square complete with red carpet, cameras, and the biggest starts.
Since I have been here, almost every major actor has appeared: Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise, Natalie Portman, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Anthony Hopkins, Daniel Craig...the list goes on.
